Girl Tea party

For some of us, planing parties is so much fun... and I had a blast taking part in this wonderful tea party.

I had the oportunity to make a Tea Pot Cake for a little princess who turned 5 years old  last week.

Little girls love the elegance of dressing in beautiful dresses and wearing pearls... and acting like "grown-ups"...thats why this party was perfect for this special little girl.

The flowers, the porcelain tea sets, the party favors, every detail was taken care of to make this birthday party a day to remember.

The candy bar was filled with chocolates, candies, gummies, lolipops...a kid's heaven

I used pink and green fondant to cover a moist  marble cake with Nutella filling...even the tea pot was made from cake...

The little girls had a blast and I am happy that they all enjoyed the tea party, and... the cake!

CANNOLI SICILIANI

If you enjoy italian desserts as much as I do, then you must try one of my favorite Italian pastries, "Il Cannolo Siciliano".

The cannoli shell (covered in bubbles) gives the cannoli a crispy texture in your mouth and the whipped ricotta filling is divine.

The cannoli reminds me of my childhood. while vacationing in Sicily (Balestrate, Alcamo and Caltagirone). After a long day at the beach, we stopped by a bar or pasticceria to have the oh so good cannoli.
If you are ready to indulge in one of the best Italian Pastrie contact me to get the recipe at www.cakesbyro.com and don't forget to like us on www.cakesbyro.com/facebook

The World of Bread: PANETTONE

Panettone is a sweet italian bread that have been part of the Chritsmas table for a very long time.
I'm not pretty sure the origin of it, but I can tell you that a panettone isn't a easy bread to make. It's very tricky and requires an investment of time. The dough is soft, sweet and rich and  needs to be "babysitt" for a four hours intervals until reach twelve hours in total.
That's why in our last cooking class I taught an easy and quick version of this sweet bread filled with fruit and chocolate.

If you would like to try this spectacular sweet bread, please visit us on cakesbyro/facebook.com

SACHER TORTE

Last Wednesday July 11,2012 in our cooking class we taught our students how to make the famous Austrian chocolate cake: The Sacher Torte.

This cake was invented in 1832 for a 16 years-old apprentice in his second school year Franz Sacher. The recipe was a succes and after that it was in great demand. Today is sold in many countries. The best place to have it is at The cafe Sacher at the Sacher Hotel in Vienna considered as the home of this famous cake.

The result  we had was a fluffy and soft chocolate cake with a delicate apricot taste and a rich chocolate flavor.

Come to our cooking class to experiencie the pleasure of making this recipe and many more.

Cooking Classes

Hello there...I know it's been two years since my last post...but I have good news: I'n teaching cooking classes, yes that's amazing right? Sometime  things happened at the right moment without even looking for them. Few months ago the destiny put me in front of my soul mate in cooking: my dear friend and aswome Chef Beba (Maria Gabriela Corona, excelente student, graduated Magna Cum Laude from  Le Cordon Bleu).
She invited me at one demo class she was helding in her mom's kitchen...nice place with ten bar tools around the cooking area. I was sitting at the corner...It was a French cooking class...the delicious smell from the meat stew she was cooking for the Onion soup cautivated my senses. The way she cut the potatos in BATONETTE ( I learned it that day) for the french fries told me she had a good skill with big knifes...she was smiling I thinh a little nervous trying to make no mistakes in front the audiencie she had...At one point she look at me and without saying a word I knew she was invited me to go behing the kitchen and help her. She told me in a whispering voice...can you make  the Tarte Tartan? I running of time...WHAT??? I thought make a Tarte Tartan, I've never made that! But how hard is making an upside down apple pie...I grab an apron and suddenly I was part of the cooking class...from that day one Beba and myself are a perfect team, we work on a different menu each month and we teach two days a week...So far it's been one of the best experience in my life...My contribution is the sweet finale...Join us and you will have a great experiencie for all your senses.

Karate Baby Girl

Hi there...long time since my last post...Sorry!

Between kids, work, get ready for the holidays and cakes I didn't have time for writing...
I want to tell you a story about my oldest daugther . She does Karate (Shito-Ryu) and she loves her sensei...we all love him...one day he told his students that in few months a little baby girl will join his family: Isabella. Everyone in the school were pretty exited about the news, even my girl told him that she would like to be Isabella's sensei one day...can you imagine that, whao!
Of course a baby shower was planned and my daugther offered the cake...

After thinking what we can make that would be cute and pink but also with a Japanese touch, we decide to make a vanilla cake with caramel cream covered with white fondant with a little crib on top with Isabella's name in Japanese.

The result was great and everybody liked it.

I hope you like it too...

See you soon

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

ITALY: Che bella sei!!!

Italy, Italy...what can I say about Italy...history, beauty, fashion, food, all in one country...

I just had the glory to be in my cousin's wedding in Lombardia. Yes, where cities like Milan, Bergamo and Como, gets together to offer you not only the most amazing mountain view, but the experience to find flavors and ingredients that let you think you are in heaven. Talking about heaven I have to tell you that the most traditional foods of the Lombardia region are diary produces well know as Taleggio, Branzi, Formai de Mut, Gorgonzola, Mascarpone.

Yes, all those beauties can be part of the most wonderful dish... With the Mascarpone cheese, for example, you made the TIRAMISU, one of those dessert that you cannot say enough. Never is enough when you mix, mascarpone cheese, eggs, sugar, coffee with the "savoiardi "cookies and finish it with cacao on top...Whao!!!!

In Lombardia you can find also il Torrone, Crostate( fruit tart)and la Polenta e Osei(white cake with chocolate cream filling, rum, hazelnut past all covered with marzapane dough and yellow sugar)
Italy is one of the places in the world that you must visit at some point in your life...you will never regret yourself , believe me, I never do...
Arriverderci Italia!!!
