Karate Baby Girl

Hi there...long time since my last post...Sorry!

Between kids, work, get ready for the holidays and cakes I didn't have time for writing...
I want to tell you a story about my oldest daugther . She does Karate (Shito-Ryu) and she loves her sensei...we all love him...one day he told his students that in few months a little baby girl will join his family: Isabella. Everyone in the school were pretty exited about the news, even my girl told him that she would like to be Isabella's sensei one day...can you imagine that, whao!
Of course a baby shower was planned and my daugther offered the cake...

After thinking what we can make that would be cute and pink but also with a Japanese touch, we decide to make a vanilla cake with caramel cream covered with white fondant with a little crib on top with Isabella's name in Japanese.

The result was great and everybody liked it.

I hope you like it too...

See you soon

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

ITALY: Che bella sei!!!

Italy, Italy...what can I say about Italy...history, beauty, fashion, food, all in one country...

I just had the glory to be in my cousin's wedding in Lombardia. Yes, where cities like Milan, Bergamo and Como, gets together to offer you not only the most amazing mountain view, but the experience to find flavors and ingredients that let you think you are in heaven. Talking about heaven I have to tell you that the most traditional foods of the Lombardia region are diary produces well know as Taleggio, Branzi, Formai de Mut, Gorgonzola, Mascarpone.

Yes, all those beauties can be part of the most wonderful dish... With the Mascarpone cheese, for example, you made the TIRAMISU, one of those dessert that you cannot say enough. Never is enough when you mix, mascarpone cheese, eggs, sugar, coffee with the "savoiardi "cookies and finish it with cacao on top...Whao!!!!

In Lombardia you can find also il Torrone, Crostate( fruit tart)and la Polenta e Osei(white cake with chocolate cream filling, rum, hazelnut past all covered with marzapane dough and yellow sugar)
Italy is one of the places in the world that you must visit at some point in your life...you will never regret yourself , believe me, I never do...

How do you enjoy life?

...it is too difficult to answer that question? I don't think so...
For me enjoy life is to do things that helps me stay relax, to do things that I'm excited about it, things that can help me put my ideas in order, sometimes, is doing nothing...

For others, enjoy life is having a barbecue in the backyard, a glass of good Brandy, Porto o Scotch and a cigar...I don't know why this situation is so familiar to me (my husband is cigars lover)...jajaja!!!

Yes, cigar smoking is a pleasure, is something that deserves respect...all the humans senses are involve in it...is the promise for a really good experience....

When somebody ask me to make a cake that can represent what they really like, how they enjoy life...It's something incredible...is amazing that you can show that feeling as well on a cake.

This cake was made for a birthday men who really know how to enjoy life...a good cigar and a good scotch...Cheers my friend!!!
See you soon...

Kids Party

Hi there,

The countdown goes: four, three, two, one...school start!!!! Probably more than one mom is counting how many days left they have before the schools start...new teachers, new classmates and even new school...finally they can start the regularly activities they used to do and probably most of them are thinking about the birthdays they will celebrate, the party they will prepare and of course THE CAKE they will show.

In my country ,Venezuela when we think about kids birthday's celebrations, believe me, we think BIG...and that's how I started making cake at some point...first my oldest Nice's birthday cake, then my friend's son birthday cake, my own kids birthday's cakes ...and go on, go on...

...A kid's birthday is an especial occasion, we need that picture blowing the candles in the album, we need to remember the kid's face covered in cake...we need to keep the memories...

Every time that I make a kid's cake , I feel as happy as they feel when they see the cake with their favorite theme...I like to make them happy...
Celebrate every special occasion in your life...keep the memories...

See u soon.

Think green, live green...

Hi everybody,
You know what is the beauty of ridding a bike? That you are capable to leave the stress on the pavement and can connect yourself with the view, the nature, the speed... I could tell you: that feeling is unique...and the best of all is that cycling it's one of the most environmentally friendly activities you can do. So at this point you become more conscious of the environment around you and the world in general, if you can say that...
That's reminds me one event I was invited at my oldest daugther'school, "Meet and Greet the Artist: green theme". I couldn't use recycling materials for a cake, come on!!!, but I would do a cake that could express which one is the world we would like to live: the one with green trees, pure air, flowers and butterflies or the one with dark sky, pollution and no trees?

So the pictures I'm presenting today is about a cake, yes a cake (with frosting and everything) showing different worlds that we could live in...but which one is the one we want???
The kids were amazing, each of them came with a different interpretation, different points of view...was so cool...after all, that's what the art is about...what you can see on it !!!!
I told you, there is no limit in the imagination when the cakes is what we talking about.
Bye, enjoy the ride...of baking...and be green...it's easy
See u soon.

TRES LECHES( Three milks cake)

Hi my friends, tomorrow I will meet at home my second cousin from Venezuela with all her family. They've been in Florida for a couple of weeks on vacation. So I thought it will be a good idea to have a barbecue (if it doesn't rain). The kids will play and we will have the opportunity to talk. As always my husband will cook the steak, believe me, he knows how to do that!

At this point my mind starts thinking about the dessert. For the sweet lovers the "TRES LECHES cake" is heaven. So I thought, let's make it...

The Tres Leches cake (Three milks cake) is a sponge cake, let's say soaked in three milks: evaporated milk, condensed milk and heavy cream.

We don't know exactly the origin of it, but is usually attributed to Nicaragua and Mexico, but is very popular in Latinoamerica. You can add coconut milk, rum or vanilla to give it a different touch each time you make it.

The idea for creating a cake soaked in liquids is probably of European origins as a rum cake or tiramisu. But I can tell you is delicious!!!!

You may serve it in a big dish or in individual portions as is shown in the picture.

I'm pretty sure I will enjoy this visit from my cousin and I hope they will too...
Hasta la vista baby!!!!

Citrus...Citrus...

Hello my friends, today I woke up thinking about how delicious the citrus are: oranges, lemons, limes...here in Florida we have spectaculars oranges, sweets and that's why they became perfect ingredient for my cakes. Actually I always have lemon zest in my mix... I can't miss it...

When people ask me about my cakes, I always tell them that there is no limit about flavors or designs...that's why I'm going to share with you one of my recipes: Orange Cake! This recipe is from my aunt Vitina, my Dad's sister and I use it covered with fondant or almond paste for Wedding cakes, First Comunion or any occasion you have. Enjoy it!!!

Ingredients

2 cups of fresh orange juice

3/4 cup cooking oil

4 Tbsp orange zest

1 1/2 pound all purpose flour

5 eggs

1 tsp baking powder

3 cups sugar

Combine egg yolks with sugar until smooth, then orange juice, zest and oil. Add dry ingredients. In a bowl beat white eggs until came snow. Add to the rest of the mix. Oven 320 for 45 min or when you introduce a stick in the middle came clean.

Welcome!

Hello everybody! I'm pretty excited to show you one of my big passions: CAKES!!!

Since I was a child I'd been around a good food. As an Italian child, I always wanted to be around pans, spoon and spatulas, so I waited until I was capable enough( 14 years old) to be in front of my mom's oven to made my first cake. Sweet flavors were my passion. So since then, as a compliment to my mother's cooking I'd made the perfect sweet finale in each dinner she'd offered.

Today as a mother of three I continue to make cakes with the same passion as before. I want to share with you easy tips, unbelievable flavors and the best of all, the satisfaction to enjoying it.

Espero compartir con ustedes mi pasion por los postres, no hay mejor final para una buena comida que un buen dulce!!!

Hasta pronto!
